Item Description

The Strickland Quarry in Connecticut is one of the great New England localities, dating back to the mid 1800s. A golf course was built over the locality in the 1990s, and the former quarry pit is now completely flooded so collecting is impossible and not allowed, but in its time, this pegmatite quarry produced a good number of iconic specimens. This piece is a seldom seen example of Cookeite, a member of the Chlorite Group featuring white to cream colored crystal aggregates all over the top/display side of the piece, free of matrix. It's best seen with magnification, but it's not a micro specimen as it would display quite well on a shelf. These specimens are seldom seen on the market now, so if you collect East Coast specimens, pegmatite minerals or pieces from this famous locality, don't miss out.
From the collection of Bill Wilson, former president of Rhode Island Mineral Hunters club.
