Item Description
While Conichalcite is not what I would necessarily call a rare secondary ore mineral, specimens from the famed Tsumeb are notably hard to find on the market. Here we have an attractive large miniature / small cabinet specimen with a rich coverage of dark forest green colored somewhat flowing / spherical aggregates of Conichalcite which are covering underlying matrix on the front. The back of the piece has more concentric "balls" of Conichalcite of a slightly lighter green hue than the front. The piece is in fine shape, undamaged on the front and the color is about as rich as I've seen from Tsumeb. I would safely guess that this particular piece is easily 50 years old (dating to the late 1960s-early 1970s).
From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974
