Item Description
A fine quality, and rarely seen crystallized example of the rare prismatic / columnar crystals of Barite from an undisclosed locality in Marienberg. The crystals show a mix of colors with white and grey hues, but there are also thin reddish-orange streaks that can be seen as well. This particular piece is a RICH sample of this elusive material loaded with crystals which are strongly intergrown. These are rarely available on the market, and certainly worth picking up if you collect old German classic, or worldwide Barite specimens. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3270) with a label from Harvard University from the Pearse Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A hard to find and unusual German classic from the famous locality. Valued at $850-$950.
