Item Description

A fantastic specimen of what was labeled simply as Columbite (now defined as the Columbite-(Fe)-Columbite-(Mn) Series) from São José da Safira, Brazil The piece is a big, hefty, blocky, sharp, jet-black crystal with well-formed faces. The termination is complete, along with all four prism faces. The only incomplete growth is on the sides / base of the crystal where it separated from either the pocket wall The reflective luster (not terribly common for the species) on the termination combined with that rich jet-black hue really make the piece shine when you hold it in your hands. You don't see a lot of Columbite crystals on the market like this anymore, and if you collect niobates, this is a great piece to add your collection. Specimen weight is 721 grams. From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-188278.html
