Columbite-(Fe)-Columbite-(Mn) Series (ex Neal Yedlin Collection)

Item Description

A specimen of what was labeled simply as Columbite (now defined as the Columbite-(Fe)-Columbite-(Mn) Series) from an undisclosed locality in Bedford, New York. This old classic material is virtually non-existent on the market today, and have become highly desirable classics among collectors. The piece host several crystals with sharp, well-formed faces, though there is a bit of roughness on the top an bottom edges. The color is a dark grey-black hue and the luster is semi-metallic and a bit muted in areas. A light tan surface alteration can be seen on a few select faces for a nice contrast. The largest individual Columbite measures 2.0 cm. This piece comes from the collection of Leo Neal Yedlin (known by everybody in the hobby as Neal), who was an accomplished collector and was inducted into the Micromounters' Hall of Fame when it was founded in 1981 (see https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/yedlinneal/). Neal's hand-written label accompanies the piece.
