A rarely seen and classic old-time specimen of Columbite from Bedford, New York. This is a well-known historic pegmatite, dating back well over 100 years. This piece is possibly from the Kinkel Quarry, and features a trio of sharp, well-formed, semi-lustrous, dark brown-black, bladed crystals of Columbite, free of matrix. The specific species is not known, we've labeled it as "Columbite-(Fe)-Columbite-(Mn) Series". This is certainly one of the best examples of this material that we've had to offer in the auctions. A great representative piece of this very hard to find material. From the collection of Kay Robertson (#8781). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. Her label states that the piece once had a label from Leo Neal Yedlin, the famous micromount collector and former president of the New York Mineralogical Club, but sadly the label was lost over time.
