Item Description

Specimens from the much less well-known Kavalerovo Mining District, near Dalnegorsk, Russia are much rarer than from the much more famous nearby Dalnegorsk mines. A 4.5 x 4.1 cm, very distinctive and diagnostic, apple-green fluorite cube with faint purple and green edge phantoms is nicely accented on two sides with glassy, flattened, calcite rhombs. The fluorite is nicely translucent and the lightly frosted crystal faces have moderate luster. The upper face has interesting stepped-growth and the internal crazing pattern really adds character, especially in the backlit photo. Specimens of this quality came out in the early 1990s, with none since.
