Item Description
An impressive, large and surprising fluorite plate from this famous locale. The large, sharp, cubes, to 4.7 cm, have amazing, shimmering iridescent faces and look nearly opaque in ordinary light. BUT, they light up with color-zoned gemminess, when backlit! The amber cores have gorgeous violet and blue phantoms! In excellent shape, overall, for such a large piece, with only a few gently bruised corners and edges and the noted periphery wear. Moderate purple fluorescence. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and acquired in 1968. Old-time material. The intense luster of the crystal faces is unusual for Hardin County. The "Mahoning Mine" dates the piece to the 1940s to 60s, prior to the merger of the Ozark and Mahoning companies and calling the mine Minerva No. 1. Uncommon and excellent large old-time material.
