Item Description
Barite specimens from the historic iron mines at Egremont are an English classic and this a stunning example. The aesthetic, stout, sawtooth barite blades have fabulous color-zoning, due to iron oxide layers. The backlit photo really highlights the zoning and color. The lustrous, translucent crystals are up to a thick, 1.3 cm. The crystals on the front rest on hematite kidney-ore matrix. However, the back is TOTALLY different! Here we see, that the piece is entirely a single compound crystal with an attached sidecar barite. The lustrous barite on this side is included with rust-red hematite, with dramatic effect. An outstanding, totally different, two-sided barite specimen with only trivial termination and edge wear. Classic, old-time and sculptural barite from the George Elling Collection. Valued at $1250-1500.
