Color Change Spinel

Spinels are known in a wide range of colors from blue to red and many in between. Some of the finest Burmese Spinels actually show an "Alexandrite type" color change which means it will appear different colors in different sources of light. This particular stone is a fine example of this material as it shows a soft lilac color under "fluorescent energy saver" bulbs, but in sunlight the stone is an interesting mix of light yellow and blue. Keep in mind that there are only a handful of gems out there that change colors, and now with the recent turmoil between the U.S. and Burma, it could be very difficult to obtain stones of this quality at reasonable prices. The stone is very slightly included and has an "Oval" cut.
