Item Description
A wonderful showy specimen of the rare hydrated calcium magnesium phosphate Collinsite from the Kovdor Zheleznyi Mine in Russia. The species was named in 1924 after William Henry Collins a geologist and the former director of the Geological Survey of Canada. This piece hosts botryoidal soft golden colored groups of Collinsite sitting on grey rhombic Dolomite. Nearly all of the "balls" are undamaged, but a few small contacts can be seen. Overall it's a great example of this incredibly hard to find material that came out about 20 years ago. Ex Kay Robertson Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
