Item Description

A wonderful showy cabinet sized specimen of the rare hydrated calcium magnesium phosphate Collinsite from the Rapid Creek area in the Yukon of Canada. This mineral was named in 1924 in honor William Henry Collins, a geologist and the former director of the Geological Survey of Canada. It's quite rare to find full cabinet sized examples of this material from Rapid Creek, and this piece is not only big, but it hosts many fine quality, well-formed, bladed crystals of soft greenish-yellow Collinsite measuring up to 6 mm on matrix. The crystals look beautiful up close and most of them are undamaged. An impressive piece of this rare classic material from an area that is limited in terms of collecting availability, as it's often buried under snow and ice for a good portion of the year.
This piece comes from the collection of Art Soregaroli.
