Item Description

The various localities around Boron, California are world-famous for producing some of the finest crystallized examples of various borate species ever seen. Many people would say that the most well-known specimens of Colemanite ever found come from this area. This piece is a beautiful example of said material featuring eye-catching, well-formed, sharp, white to colorless monoclinic crystals sitting of Colemanite measuring up to 1.8 cm, associated with white Veatchite on matrix. There is a bit of damage around the periphery, but still good quality all around. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds (#RR0147). Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
