Colemanite with Calcite (classic material) (ex David Burgess Collection)

The Colemanites from the U.S. Borax Open Pit in California are among the finest crystallized examples of the species extant. While they may not be the largest in the world, they are certainly some of the most impressive in terms of sharpness and gemminess. This piece is a fantastic crystallized group of sharp, well-formed, thin, tabular blades of colorless gemmy Colemanite measuring up to 2.1 cm which are associated with hundreds of little, translucent, waxy, golden colored Calcite crystals on matrix. Excellent quality all around and certainly a great example of this classic material. The label accompanying the piece states that the piece fluoresces a fairly strong green hue under LW UV light, and a strong green hue under MW UV light. Very little damage, but our light shows a softer yellow hue. The piece is valued at $950. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
