Item Description

Choice, pineapple-like cluster of razor-sharp Colemanite crystals from the TYPE LOCALITY, the East Coleman Mine in Death Valley. The Colemanites range to over 2 cm, and they are tinted by Todorokite, a frequent inclusion at this location. Really high quality, and quite aesthetic for the combination. From the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums. Bob would have either collected this with or exchanged it from the mine manager at the time in the 1960s or 70s, the legendary collector Jim Minette. The Reynolds collection has a huge borate suite, many with Minette labels, and we know they traded a lot with each other.
