Item Description

Two generations of densely intergrown of glassy, gemmy to translucent bladed colemanite crystals form a sculptural and outstanding small cabinet from the type locality area of the species. The highly lustrous blades reach 2.4 cm on this impressive piece. Colemanite, perhaps the most collected and best crystallized of the calcium-rich borates, seldom comes in crystals so lustrous from other localities. The borate mines of Inyo County and Death Valley contain the type localities for colemanite and numerous other evaporite species. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection No. 9295 and acquired in 1998 from Detrin Minerals (Daniel Trinchillo). A superb example. Rare on the market today!
