Item Description

This is a 360 degree knob, complete all around (with the contact on the bottom) of translucent, bladed Colemanite crystals with gemmy edges and terminations, from the TYPE LOCALITY. The East Coleman Mine is a borate occurence that has produced high-quality, evaporite species, as we see here. The glossy Colemanites reach up to 1.9 cm, and the condition of the specimen is excellent. From the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums. Bob would have either collected this with or exchanged it from the mine manager at the time in the 1960s or 70s, the legendary collector Jim Minette. The Reynolds collection has a huge borate suite, many with Minette labels, and we know they traded a lot with each other.
