Item Description

The localities around Boron, California are famous for producing some of the finest crystallized examples of various borate species. Perhaps the most well-known specimens of Colemanite in the world come from this area. This piece is a beautiful example of said material featuring eye-catching "sprays" composed of fine, sharp, well-formed, thin, tabular white to off-white monoclinic crystals sitting on matrix. The largest Colemanite measures 6 mm. Very little damage and beautiful to view up close. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
