Item Description
This is certainly one of the finest examples we've ever had to offer in the auctions from this locality. Typically Colemanite is not seen in well-crystallized examples from most localities. The famous specimens from Death Valley, California for years were the standard for the species in terms of size and quality, but over the years, Turkey has been producing some impressive examples both in terms of the excellent crystallization and noteworthy size. This robust and showy cabinet specimen is filled with fantastic, well-formed, euhedral, gemmy/translucent, very pale golden colored prismatic/blocky crystals measuring up to 5.4 cm, which has selective "smoky" colored zoning on certain faces, giving the piece a two-tone appearance, that is not only eye-catching, but unusual for Colemanite as a species. For the size, the piece is in remarkably good shape, as I can only find one real point of damage to one of the terminations, the rest all appear to be in fine condition. Colemanite is not often seen in such "hardy" crystals like this, as they can often be somewhat slender or tabular, but the crystals on this piece have heft and size that is rare for the species worldwide. If you're a fan of Borates, this is something that you're not likely to find anywhere else on the market, especially in this size and quality, so don't miss out on picking this one up for your collection. Valued $2,200.
