A Death Valley classic ... striking 7.5 cm rosette of very sharp, tinted and untinted, translucent spearpoints, to 2.8 cm, is aesthetically set on the sculptural large sawed matrix covered covered with an earlier generation of smaller colemanites and a few unusual larger coated colemanites. Colemanite is MUCH MORE common from the famous borate deposits in Kern County and other mines in the Furnace Creek District. Mineral specimens are RARE from this less well-known lacustrine (lake) borate evaporite deposit in Inyo County, especially Colemanite. This exceptional, sculptural colemanite is from the Type Locality area of the species, the Furnace Creek Mining District. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020.
