Item Description
Some of the finest crystallized examples of Colemanite come from the U.S. Borax Open Pit in California. While they may not be the largest in the world, they are certainly some of the most impressive in terms of sharpness and gemminess. This piece features a cluster of very sharp, well-formed, thin, tabular blades of colorless gemmy Colemanite measuring up to 1.6 cm which are colored a soft golden hue from Realgar according to the label sitting on matrix. The central portion of crystals is in excellent condition with no major damage, but there is some peripheral roughness where it was removed from the pocket wall. Fine quality and very showy. Valued at $950. An interesting note: The label mentions that this piece was collected at "Jim's Spot", which is almost certainly a reference to Jim Minette who worked for the U.S. Borax Mines for 44 years, and personally collected many fine Colemanites during his life.
