Item Description

A glorious 6.5 cm "feathered wing-like", glassy colemanite crystal is dramatically set in the sculptural angled vug lined with a myriad of smaller glassy, colemanite spearpoints. Mineral specimens are uncommon from the extinct East Coleman borate mine located in Death Valley National Park. Two sides of the piece have been sawed to enhance the outstanding display quality of this piece from the Type Locality area of Colemanite - the Furnace Creek Mining District. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. A superb and exceptionally aesthetic small cabinet from the locale. Definitely, due to access, collected either together with or by Bob's good friend Jim Minette (a mine manager) in the 1960s or 1970s. A superb piece from a place and time now lost.
