Cobaltoan Smithsonite

Tsumeb is famous for Smithsonite and all of its varietals, and yet large crystals of quality always were rare. These attractive, pink Smithsonites came out in the 1960s and 1970s. This is a lovely miniature features several dozen, translucent pink, pointed, scalenohedral crystals whose forms are very apparent in this nicely composed cluster. The Smithsonites cover every ridge and flat surface of the matrix on the front and back giving good three-dimensionality to this attractive piece. The crystals are in excellent condition with only a trace of contacting around the periphery. This was from Dr. Pohl's collection of Tsumeb minerals that represented her favorite locality, and note the early addition to her collection in the 1960s as number 11000-or so. These are ROBUST translucent, fine crystals of high quality!
