Item Description
A really attractive and unusual specimen which according to the label identifies it as pink cobalt-bearing Calcite which is coating rhombic crystals of Dolomite. The larger main crystal is beautifully balanced against a smaller secondary rhomb sitting at a 90 angle. Excellent condition on the display side, as it really doesn't show any damage of note. It's actually crystallized on the back as well, and the only point of contact is on the underside where it was removed from the pocket wall. I have to say I haven't honestly seen a piece like this before, and I really like it for the aesthetics, color and form. No specific locality was given outside of Katanga. If you collect carbonates or minerals of DRC or Africa in general, don't miss out on this eye-catching and "different" looking display specimen. Valued at $650. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12831). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
