Cobaltite (classic ''floater'' crystal)

A classic example of the superb Cobaltites from the famous locality at Hakansboda, Sweden. This locality dates back the 15th Century, and has produced the world's finest Cobaltite and Glaucodot specimens which are chemically very similar. Good Cobaltite crystals are hard enough to find, but to have such a fine, sharp, lustrous, complete "floater" crystal like this is a real treat. The crystal has smooth brilliant metallic silvery-white faces on every side. A lot of Cobaltites from this locality have a matte luster and "dingy" looking faces, but this one really shines and stands out against others I've seen from the locality. The habit is what I would call a pseudo-pyritohedron. Many people think that Cobaltite crystals belong to the isometric system, like a lot of basic sulfides, but they're actually orthorhombic. Upon close inspection, I can't see any major damage to the crystal. Priced at $1,000 in the inventory.
