Cobalt-bearing Calcite (fluorescent) - unusual xls

Item Description

This excellent and showy small cabinet specimen is composed of lustrous, pink, Cobalt-bearing Calcite crystals, on Calcite matrix, from the famous mining district of Bou Azzer, Morocco. The Calcite is multi-generational from the matrix up, with the cores of the large crystals (up to 1.4 cm) being translucent scalenohedron, then jacketed by a second generation of tapered and GEMMY Calcite with more of a long, nailhead habit. Very attractive and interesting all at the same time, the Calcites also have an incredibly intense, red-orange fluorescence. Morocco has produced some really nice specimens of this very desirable Calcite variety, especially compared to the druses that you often see from elsewhere. But even for Bou Azzer, this is a remarkable piece because of the balanced distribution of the individual Calcites. The choice aesthetics are magnified by the ability to appreciate each crystal's beauty. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection. HIGHLY UNUSUAL amidst many that look the same.
