Item Description

Clintonite is a rare Mica species that was first discovered near Amtiy, New York in 1828 and then named in 1843 after DeWitt Clinton a naturalist and politician who served as a United States Senator and was the sixth governor of New York, along with being mayor of New York City. Near the end of his life, he was largely responsible for the construction of the Erie Canal. Some of the best examples of the species are from the Crestmore, California, both from the standpoint of crystal habit and color. This piece features rich chrome green colored hexagonal groups of Clintonite on classic "blue" Calcite matrix. A great representative specimen of a species that is not often seen in good crystallized examples.
