Clinozoisite

Item Description

An attractive small cabinet sized display piece of rarely seen Clinozoisite from Gmina Strzegom in Poland. The piece features groups of thin prismatic, soft golden-brown colored crystals forming partial "feather"-like "sprays", measuring up to 2.7 cm long, free of matrix. There is a light sugary coating of an unknown mineral, possibly tiny Albite crystals(?), plus I could see a couple very small golden Stilbite blades with a loupe. Some crystals are contacted, so the piece is not damage-free, but it's still a presentable and overall eye-catching example of this rarely seen material. It's honestly the biggest single specimen we've ever seen from the locality.

From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#8 PO), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
