Item Description
Penninite is an old-time synonym for pennine, a rare chromium variety of clinochlore. This excellent and rare comabination specimen features a rich coating of bright green penninite microcrystals and botryoids on massive chromite ore. This piece is from the Line Pit at Texas, Pennsylvania, where open pit and underground mining ceased in 1919. Comes with an expertly handwritten, faded label from an older collection. The collection this came out of was a museum stash dating to prior to World War I. Hefty for its size at 135 grams!
