Item Description

This famous locality is best known as the type locality for Perovskite, but there are other excellent minerals found here, including these elusive but fine quality Clinochlore specimens. This piece is a showy, excellent example featuring notably well-formed, layered hexagonal crystals measuring up to 4.1 cm across, sitting on matrix. When backlit, the crystals have a beautiful saturated blue-green color, though they have a pseudo-metallic golden appearance on the surface. Minor roughness can be seen, but it doesn't take away from the supreme quality and excellent displayability of the piece, which actually sits on its own without the aid of a base or clay. This is certainly the BEST piece of this material that we've ever had to offer in the auctions. Valued $1,800.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#335 R), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
