Item Description

A gorgeous, gemmy and lustrous, renowned "hot" pink tourmaline from the famous Stewart Mine of California. This was the older and far more famous (at the time) cousin of the Himalaya Mine, but alas its production was not as great or as recent and it is fading into memory a bit. This features a 4.2 cm, striated crystal : a beautiful, intensely color-saturated pink tourmaline, with an achroite (colorless) zone below the pastel-blue termination. The pinacoidal termination is colorless and slightly matte finished. The crystal is very jauntily set in a lustrous and translucent euhedral quartz crystal and bladed cleavelandite matrix nicely accented with lavender lepidolite disks. The closeup photos highlight the vivid pink color saturation! It just GLOWS with color - and our photos are taken in normal lighting with nothing fancy to make it look too good in the photos. it IS better in person. There is one very clean repair to tourmaline, barely noticeable and certainly not a visual detraction. Old matrix material from the 1960s, and very seldom available in this combination and quality. Ex Maury Morgenstein Collection (an old-time San Diego miner and gem dealer). This is valued at $2500
