A superbly cut, large, display/impact piece of the yellow-orange variety of quartz, citrine. This stone has a fine cut, excellent clarity, and superb even toned color. The coloration is most likely due to (stable) heating treatment of clear quartz, mined from the same region, although it is impossible to tell for sure. From an old gem collection assembled in the 1980s and 1990s. At 309 grams in mass, almost a pound in weight! Modern big citrines, usually not cut so well, can be had for as little as $5 per carat wholesale if you can find one this big for sale - so $1500-2000 seems a very low bottom range valuation here.
