Citrine arguably the most well-known / common yellow gem on the market. Despite the number of Citrines gems you'll find for sale, many people are surprised to know that a good majority of these stones are actually heated to turn them yellow. Many years ago it was discovered that you can heat natural purple Amethyst gems (of which there is an abundance from various world localities) with the right combination of temperature and time, and they will turn into yellow Citrine. Now that's not to say that natrual Citrine doesn't exist, there are plenty of places where it has been found around the world, but it's not nearly as plentiful as Amethyst, so it's easier to heat the purple stones and get yellow gems out of them. It should be noted that there are hundreds of thousands of heated Citrine gems on the market, and they are completely accepted by dealers and collectors, so long as the buyer knows they are buying a heated stone. This stone is a good example of said material. It is virtually eye clean with a "Wide Heart" cut.
