The ancient mercury mines at Almedan have been in production since the Roman Age, 2000 years! This is an showy, old-time, rich and hefty mercury ore specimen from this historic district. Lustrous, compound and single, blood-red cinnabar crystals to 1.0 cm are attractively scattered on the massive cinnabar matrix coated with a thin quartz crystal rind. Bruised crystals are noted, but this remains a showy, rich and highly representative example of the species and renowned locale. Classic and excellent material.
