Cinnabar - twinned (rare USA LOCALITY!)

From the Red Bird Mine in Nevada, this Cinnabar crystal is a classic drill bit twinned cinnabar like you'd expect from China but it is in fact historic old Americana! This is a historic and rare find, and they seldom turn up for sale. At 1.1 cm across, this twin has good color, a glowing, red translucence, and a fine, almost granulated texture that really highlights the metallic luster. There is some tiny wear at the termination, but with the naked eye this wear is more than compensated for by the high luster and great color. This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
