Item Description
A notably hard to find specimen of Cinnabar from the Idria Mine in Slovenia, a famous old mercury mine that according to mindat.org, dates back to 1490! The entry also goes on to say that, "this mine was once part of Italy and also part of Austria. Old labels may carry the region name Carniola". This piece is a lovely small cabinet specimen filled with a coverage of lustrous, deep metallic red crystals of Cinnabar on matrix. The crystals are sharp and well-formed with excellent faces, which look beautiful under magnification. These are seldom seen on the market, and a must-have for any fan of Cinnabar or sulfides in general due to the historic old locality.
