Cinnabar on Dolomite (classic material)

A fine quality, old-time example of the classic Chinese Cinnabar specimens from Tongren. The best of these pieces are among the finest examples of Cinnabar in the world, and the specimens from Tongren have been known for decades. They are true icons from China. This is an older specimen dating back about 30+ years. Several sharp, well-formed, intense metallic red color prismatic crystals of Cinnabar flaring aesthetically out of cream-colored rhombic Dolomite crystals on matrix. The largest Cinnabar measures 1.7 cm long. When backlit, they GLOW with an intense red color. The piece is essentially pristine as far as I can see, no damage anywhere that I could find. Choice material from this prestigious locality, known for its world-class Cinnabars.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#323 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
