Old-time rare and rich mercury ore from this ancient mine, that started in 1490 (MINDAT)! Red crusts and gemmy cherry-red microcrystals of cinnabar richly cover all sides of blocky matrix. Collected in the 1890s, according to respected rarities dealer Josef Vajdak (Pequa Minerals). Comes with an old faded label dating from the 1890s to early 1900s. This label lists the old regional name Krain. Historically, the mine has been part of Austria and Italy. RARE, old well-documented cinnabar from Idria. Ex David Burgess Collection, for whom Burgessite is named. Hefty and rich mercury ore at 292 grams mass.
