Item Description

A rare and rich old-time mercury ore specimen from this ancient mine, that started in 1490 (MINDAT)! Red crusts and gemmy cherry-red microcrystals of cinnabar richly cover both sides of blocky matrix. Mined calculated around 1860, according to the label copy from the famous Narodni Museum in Prague and comes with three more, old faded labels from the 1800s. Two labels list the old regional name Krain. Historically, the mine has been part of Austria and Italy. RARE, old well-documented cinnabar from Idria. Ex David Burgess Collection, for whom Burgessite is named.
