Item Description
Bright cherry-red, lustrous and translucent cinnabar crystals, to 6 mm and crystal sections richly and attractively course across the quartz-rich matrix covered with calcite on this showy and rich specimen from a less well-known Charcas area mine. This is a hefty specimen for the size from this mine. None of the other Charcas MINDAT localities list cinnabar as a species. Old-time material from the Kay Robertson Collection # 1523 acquired Burminco in 1960. Seldom on the market today, these cinnabars came out only in the late 1950s to early 1960s. Highly representative, uncommon cinnabar and a must for the species or locality collector.
