Cinnabar is one of the few sulfide species that actually passes light, and this particular species can often show a glowing red hue, similar to Proustite. The specimens from a few localities in China are some of the finest examples of the species in terms of quality, crystallization, size and color/gemminess. This beautiful miniature sized specimen features many excellent, lustrous, well-formed crystals of Cinnabar measuring up to 1.2 cm sitting on gemmy white Quartz crystals on matrix. The Cinnabars have a dark silvery-black metallic appearance in reflected light, but when backlit they have a deep glowing blood red hue! The cherry on top is that the majority of the Cinnabar crystals are twinned, highlighted by one beautiful "drill bit" twin sitting atop the specimen. Very little damage that I can see, and it's a very showy display specimen to boot! Valued at $1,850 for displayability and quality. From the collection of Colin Manlove.
