Item Description
An interesting reference specimen of Cinnabar from Mexico. The label accompanying the piece states that it is from a place called the San Juan de Carlos Mine in Catorce, SLP, but I can't find a listing for this mine in any database. The piece features a handful of deep blood red color crystals (and partial crystals) of Cinnabar measuring up to 1.0 cm sitting on Calcite matrix. The largest crystal shows decent translucency when backlit. If anybody out there has some info as to where this piece is from, please feel free to contact us. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7834). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
