Item Description

A classic, showy, old-time combination from the ancient mercury mines at Landsberg. The vuggy sculptural matrix hosts clusters of microcrystals of bright cherry-red Cinnabar crystals, globular tannish-brown Calomel (Type Locality), brassy Marcasite and globules of Amalgam, an alloy of mercury with other metals. Previously in the Falkenhorst Collection. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2303 and acquired from Scott Williams in the early 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). An exceptional old-time combination specimen from this historic locale, as specimens with this combination are RARE.
