Item Description

Small to micro bright red Cinnabar is associated with white Quartz on silvery-grey Galena matrix. An attractive color combination and eye-catching up close. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2590). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). NOTE ADDED: The town Schemnitz (German Name because of the Population there, hungarian Name Selmeczbanya) belonged for around 1000 years to Hungary. In 1918 it became a part of Czechoslovakia with the Name Banska Stiavnica. Theresia Gang means Theresia vein, not Shaft. Cinnabar is known from this location, but rare. Thus the label of "Schemnitz, Hungary" dates to pre-1918 when Slovakia separated from Hungary and joined with the Czechs to form Czechoslovakia.
