Item Description
An incredibly hard to find specimen of Chrysotile (Metaxite) from Zloty Stok (Reichenstein) in Poland. The piece was oringally labeled as Serpentine (var: Metaxite), but Metaxite is actually a synonym for Chrysotile. I've never seen a piece of this material before. This piece consists of a compacted mass of silvery-grey colored Chrysotile with no actual crystal form that I can see. VERY rare, and certainly worth adding to any suite of European minerals or a collection of Serpentine group minerals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6526). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
