Item Description
Seldom-seen and very rich large specimen of beautifully chatoyant iridescent green fibrous chrysotile asbestos on serpentinized peridotite from this well-known extinct, initially underground and then very large open pit asbestos mine in Quebec. The mine closed in 2011. Most of the asbestos (a known carcinogen) that was and is mined worldwide, consists of chrysotile (MINDAT). Ex Bill and Anne Cook Collection.
