Chrysoprase (rather gemmy)

Here we have a very good quality, Chrysoprase gem. This material is a green nickel-bearing variety of Chalcedony (a variety of Quartz). In my experience, the finest quality examples of this material come from Australia, and typically are translucent, but this stone is a very attractive, rich blue-green, "Oval" cut gem with much better clarity/gemminess and consistency of color than most I've seen. The very best of this material is highly prized by collectors, and this gem is excellent quality for Chrysoprase, as they are rarely so gemmy, especially in this size!
