Chrysocolla Stalactites coated by Chalcedony

A classic example of these famous specimens from the historic Ray Mine. This piece features attractive stalactites of bright robins egg blue Chrysocolla which are coated by a thin layer of Quartz. Some of these fingers are broken-off, probably a necessity in getting this out of the pocket. In truth, the broken-off ones are cool in that they give you a look inside, where you can see a dark green mineral, which isn’t malachite but rather oxidized Chrysocolla which has desiccated and turned green with exposure to air. A nice example of these iconic mineral specimens, which are some of the most well-known examples from any mine in Arizona.
