Item Description

A classic example of the famous old pseudomorphs of Chrysocolla replacing Azurite or Gypsum from the famous Ray Mine in Arizona. The display side of this specimen features a coverage of bubbly, gorgeous greenish-yellow to greenish-blue colored Chrysocolla, with a predominant 2.7 cm long pseudomorph flaring up from the center of the piece. It should be noted that these specimens are traditionally labeled as Chrysocolla after Azurite, but new evidence leads many to think they could be replacing Gypsum, which is also monoclinic in habit like Azurite. A few smaller exposed (hollow) pseudomorphs can be seen lower down on the specimen. You don't see a lot of these pieces on the market, and they are certainly worth picking up if you collect pseudomorphs, secondary ore specimens or minerals from Arizona. It's important to note that MATRIX specimens of this material like this are exceptionally difficult to find, even years ago when they were more commonly on the market. Valued at $1,800 in the inventory.
