Item Description
I have seen thousands of specimens from the Ojuela Mine over the years, but I can honestly say that I've never seen one like this. This piece features beautiful green-blue Chrysocolla, which has formed pseudomorphs after preexisting prismatic Gypsum crystals, which measure up to 2.0 cm long, sitting on oxidized iron matrix. I can see a transition from the green-blue color of the Chrysocolla into an almost white/colorless hue, so perhaps it is Quartz/Chalcedony with a bit of Chrysocolla coloring it underneath in areas. None the less, the piece is certainly rare for the locality, distinctive and a must-have for any fan of pseudomorphs, Mexican minerals or the Ojuela Mine in general. A few compressed rhombic crystals of Calcite with highly "greasy" luster can be seen for a nice touch. I can't find any real damage, outside of the periphery of the piece where it was removed from the pocket wall. Valued $1,000.
